Out of curiosity, I took the gift personality quiz myself. Here are my results: Of the top 24 items the Gift Gurus suggested for me on the first page (there were pages upon pages of results!), about 18 were right on target with things I would have picked out for myself. Not too shabby. It’s also great because you get tons of suggestions—and if you want even more ideas, just click ‘see more items like the ones you’re looking at.’
There was one gift that the Gurus brought to my attention that absolutely blew me away: Take a look at these high-tech Livescribe smartpens. Play the video if you have a moment. A smartpen could really help your college kid out during and after class because it’ll record everything they write or hear, so they never miss a beat. When it comes time to study for an exam, they can simply replay their lectures by tapping on their handwritten notes. Then they can send their notes as a pencast to their cell phone, computer or facebook page. Pens start out at around $100, but they have the potential to save your kid a lot of time—and headache—the next four years.
